::::…………………………

Label boss Tactus heads this EP alongside two collabs with MAKO.

Both artists have been busy with a number of projects, Tactus’ recent EP on Gradient Audio and MAKOs’ release on Hot N Heavy have both been well received, and between gigging, Sub FM sessions, BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM plays.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

……………..

This EP is presented by two like-minded producers, coming together to find new ways in which to meld styles, experiment with sounds and snare placement, whilst retaining melody and emphasis on sub frequencies.

It will be the prestigious labels’ 39th release, and acts almost as a follow-up to MAKOs’ ‘The Space Badgers EP’ from late 2010, which also included two collaborations between these two producers.

Blessed with a devotion to dub and roots culture and politicised by the inequalities that haunt a world of plenty, Red Star Martyrs have arrived as the latest incarnation of musician and producer Stanley Wood. As a member of cult Birmingham reggae outfit Route 81, Stanley learnt his trade as a guitarist and gigging musician before becoming part of guerrilla graffiti specialists and urban raconteurs Echo Base. Here he encountered for the first time th e mystical world of the recording studio and within it, the wonders of the Roland Space Echo – a love affair was born.

The romance bloomed with the arrival of affordable technology, enabling those that dared to dream the chance to create their own Channel One studio.

The logical outcome for Stanley was Shotgun Rockers.

From producing original dubs for the Dub Nation sound system, Shotgun Rockers became recording artists for Zip Dog, Nubian and Tanty records at the moment when a new breed of dub was being formed, introducing the energy of European dance music to inspiration from the legends of the Jamaican dub.

Fast forward to the now and Red Star Martyrs exist as an open collective where roots and dub artists from all over the world are invited to contribute and collaborate, bringing a message of love, unity and political consciousness.

Oh yeah, and to have fun too, because roots dub music is what makes us all smile, right?

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Their first EP includes two tracks, “Insurrection” & “Independence”, accompanied by the appropriate dubs for your personal recreation. “Insurrection” is a heavy stepper tune, followed by two exclusive mixes in one drop and breakbeat style.

First appearance of Mrs Boo La La aka Bec Crispin on “Independence” spreading the rootical vibrations all the way.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::………………….’………….

………….:;>……………

The second 2-track single release from Italy’s Luca La Morgia via Planet Terror. ‘The Garden of My Limits’ gently rolls out of the speakers, a delicate mixture of synths and picked acoustic guitar.

‘Money Talks’ is more percussive, maintaining the same sense of melody but with a more solid backbone. Keep your eye on Luca.

[043] Luca La Morgia: Mental Disorder / Analogue Wants To Fight

________________________________

We first found Luca La Morgia‘s music on Soundcloud earlier this year and knew we owed it to society to share.

This is the first of two single releases we’ll be doing on which you’ll find acid-tinged melodic electronica and classic breakbeat manipulations.

Mental Disorder‘ hits all the sweet spots, synthetic harps and strings colliding underneath a driving rhythm.

‘Analogue Wants To Fight’ is a slightly darker affair, but follows the same classic electronica aesthetic. Keep your eye out for the second installment next week.

SOUNDTIPS: → [ETCH – Horizons EP)

ETCH from UK

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::artworks-000039370470-206xnn-crop

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::

::::::::::::

…………………………..

………….

These three tracks, which have all been receiving regular plays on the Hedmuk Rood FM show, are as good an introduction to Etch‘s oeuvre:

‘Take Me’ is tight drums, clean synths and a lovingly-nostalgic vocal sample all rubbing each other up in just the right way;

‘Horizons’ pits a tumbling 808-line against reversed drum samples and rolls smoothly through;

and ‘Aquamarine’ sees the young breaks-master, for want of a better term, showing-off just how its possible to make an irregular rhythm move.
